Recommend a Student for a Personal Development Award or College Scholarship

If you know a student who would benefit from a college scholarship to Red Rocks Community College, but has financial burdens or other adversities that may prevent the student from pursuing higher education, we encourage you to reach out to AWRSAY and nominate them for student award. Every year, beginning in the fall, we invite nominations for deserving students from in and around the area. Many students demonstrate amazing resilience and the ability to overcome significant personal or academic challenges in their lives. These students demonstrate their ability to succeed but often times their success goes unrecognized by others. By nominating a student, you can honor them for their perseverance, character, and determination while connecting them with financial support and opportunities that can positively impact their future.

Who Can Nominate a Student?

Many of the nominators are teachers, counselors, and/or support staff. But we don’t limit nominators to these roles. If you know a student who works hard and demonstrates resilience in their personal and educational lives, and you believe that they deserve recognition, we encourage you to reach out and apply. Some of the other nominators we commonly accept include:

  • Teachers
  • School Counselors
  • School Resource Officers (SROs)
  • School Administrators
  • Coaches
  • Mentors
  • Club Sponsors
  • Librarians
  • Community Advocates

The selection of the nominee for the award is based on the following criteria:

  • Specific examples of an adversity or adversities that the nominee has overcome
  • Key factors that assisted the nominee to turn their adversity into an advantage
  • Describe how the nominee has benefited the nominator, other youth, family, or school
  • Tell us what other factors contribute to why the nominee should receive this award.

How the Nomination Process Works

We conduct a thorough review process to ensure that nominated students meet our criteria and qualifications. It provides the nominator and the student with the opportunity to explain their reasoning and advocate for their educational needs. Here’s what you can expect:

It’s an active step towards investing in a student’s future and providing the resources they need to thrive. Please take the next step and nominate a student today. We’ll carefully consider their candidacy. Then, if their nomination is accepted, we’ll reach out with the next steps.
